When many think of Parkinson’s Disease, the motor symptoms— shaking, difficulty walking, slowed movements—are first to mind. But as the disease progresses, many individuals experience visual and auditory hallucinations and delusions, called PD Psychosis, which are often frightening and unnerving. Due to the terrifying nature of the new symptoms, patients do not share them with others, including their doctors. They are too scared to speak, and they remain silent.
What We Did
At the time, there were no other treatments available for PD Psychosis, so physicians were not asking their patients about the symptoms. We needed to find a way to bring this horrific reality to life so that doctors will start asking patients more questions and treat sooner. Both the messaging and the visuals needed to quickly demonstrate the silent horror these patients were living in every day.
